RHS receives $50,000 grant

This summer, Russellville High School was awarded a grant for $50,000 from the Arkansas Department of Education for a College and Career Readiness Planning Program . The CCRPP grant is available to school districts to help with the creation of a post-secondary preparatory program.

Mayor Bill Eaton addressed Army ROTC cadets during their contracting ceremony Thursday at Arkansas Tech University. Shakeena Johnson, Forrest Been, Kristen Harris, Corey Runion, John Fisk and Tommy Cohen were recognized for their commitment to the program.

Enrollment numbers released for ATU, ATU-Ozark

Enrollment numbers show 2,172 individuals studying at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark campus, which has seen its enrollment increase by 622% since joining Arkansas Tech in 2003; Arkansas Tech University reported a preliminary 11th day enrollment of 12,003 students for the fall 2014 semester on Friday. Enrollment at ATU has increased 5.6% over fall 2013.

Arkansas Tech English Honor Society Book Sale

Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society at Arkansas Tech University, will be hosting a non-profit book sale at Vintage Books on Saturday, September 13. It will be be open from morning to evening. The proceeds will go to the Equestrian Zone, a program to aid those with disabilities.

Arkansas Tech Becomes Third Largest University In State

On Thursday , the university did a preliminary headcount on the 11th day of class and had 12,003 students for the fall 2014 semester, the release states. Thanks to the increase, Arkansas Tech University has passed by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the University of Central Arkansas in Conway to become the third largest institution of higher learning in The Natural State, the release states.

Aldermen discuss streets, sidewalks

The Russellville City Council's Finance Committee discussed funding three items from the Capital Improvement Plan during its Tuesday meeting - paving streets, the Reasoner Lane extension and fixing some sidewalks, particularly on North Phoenix Avenue. The committee has earmarked $500,000 for overlay of city streets, but Mayor Bill Eaton said it may be awhile before any overlay is done.

Crystal Bowne of Conway is getting started in her role as garden coordinator at the Faulkner County Urban Farm Project at the Faulkner County Library. The weather will turn cooler soon, and she'll be planting lettuce, kale, spinach and other cool-weather vegetables.
