Firefighters Hold Rescue Drill Last Week

Last Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, nearly two dozen fire fighters from San Bernardino County, the Combat Center, CalFire, and Morongo Valley gathered behind the old Walmart building in Yucca Valley to practice how to rescue a fire fighter who's fallen through a roof. Managing editor Tami Roleff was at the exercise, and files this reporta It's the best way-but most dangerous way-to fight a structure fire: sending fire fighters up to the roof to cut holes in it to let the smoke and heat out of the building.

Lori Herbel Cites Need For Town Water Treatment Program

Former Yucca Valley Town Councilwoman Lori Herbel, who served a single term on the council from 2006 until 2010, said she is running to regain a position her position to "address the concerns of the people and the business community by holding quarterly open Town Hall community meetings and to encourage the growth of local small businesses by making it the town's primary goal to understand expectations and assist in making the permitting process easy." If elected, Herbel said she would "examine the annual budget line-by-line to justify all expenditures and restore the Hi-Desert Nature Museum to full service and honor its past contributions to community education and cultural activities."

Yucca Valley Man Arrested for Drug Sales, Warrant

A Yucca Valley man was arrested Wednesday afternoon, accused of selling drugs, and on a DUI warrant. According to a Sheriff's warrant, deputies went to a home in the 7400 block of Church Street about 1:30 to arrest Michael Bagshaw, 55, who has a $100,000 warrant for his arrest for violating his probation for a DUI conviction in 2010.

The organization behind the new low-income senior housing is still taking applications for apartments in the Dumosa Senior Village in Yucca Valley. San Bernardino County firefighters rescue five people from flood waters near Needles

NEEDLES >> County firefighters rescued five people who became trapped near Vidal Junction on Monday when fast moving floodwater surrounded the car they were traveling in. Shortly after 8:00 p.m. Monday, firefighters received the call that flash flooding had stranded hundreds of motorists and trapped the victims in a 20-mile stretch of Highway 62. San Bernardino County firefighters from Big River, Needles and Yucca Valley - along with swiftwater rescue teams - saved the trapped people using a “Tension Diagonal” rope rescue, fire officials said.

Yucca Valley Man Arrested for Threatening to Kill his Brother with a Knife

A Yucca Valley man was arrested Thursday evening after he threatened to kill his brother with a knife. According to the Sheriff's department, Albert Runyon, 43, was trying to break into a home in the 55300 block of Santa Fe Trail about 6:45 p.m. yesterday.
