Photo cameras have some seeing red

Full story: Peoria Today

Chris Espinoza and Eddie Padilla don't like the photo radar cameras that began operating Monday at three El Mirage intersections, citing the city's motives and whether the community is an appropriate location for the traffic-control devices.

I'm not at all sure that we want law that automatically penalizes people who may very well be unaware of their supposed violation. There are a number of places where the speed limit may be unclear to a stranger or a visitor and such a person should not be arrested and fined, although a bit of scolding might be appropriate.

I'm not at all sure that we want to be controlled and watched day and night by machines. It is far too easy for such a machine to become merely a cash cow for whatever jurisdiction puts it up and you will note that the money raised is precisely the justification for these machines.

Traffic enforcement is already a sham and a fraud. Having once worked for a clerk of the courts in another state it has long been my opinion that the only function of traffic enforcement is a sort of arbitrary taxation levied against whatever whatever victim happens to be available when the tax collector in his car happens to be free to go to work.

Such a system of taxation is, at the heart, unfair and tyrannical. It is the right of any freedom loving son or daughter of Uncle Sam to resist such tyranny at every opportunity and the moral right of a citizen to speak against it.

It should be noted for those who have not been following this issue, that there is such outrage against this automation of justice that vans parked near these speed traps are no longer occupied lest the worker within the van be shot at, as has already happened. This should at least serve as a grim illustration to the authorities that the people do not like this little bit of cleverness on their part and that maybe they should stop it.

I, in short, think that these machines are wrong and should be destroyed as quickly as possible.

It is the responsibility of the driver to know. Is it okay to not to know there is a stop sign? A car crossing in front of you.

It's simple - don't speed and the camera will ignore you.

I can name some places where a stranger in one of four lanes of traffic can easily miss a change in speed limit. I can also name some places where these changes are deliberately obscured in order to trick drivers into exceeding the limit. I don't know of any in Arizona but that is an old problem in many states, like Colorado and Missouri.

Daily Horoscope for December 6

Taurus

If you gave up over what happened yesterday, you stand a better chance of sorting things out today. Talking to the person who failed to go for the teamwork may help to get a grip on the situation, especially if you manage to avoid recriminations or accusations. Instead, do your best to be as understanding and compassionate as possible. Or just let it go.
