Jerry Brown last week allows private landowners on the North Coast to cut larger trees while thinning to create defensible space for wildfire protection, according to James Robbins, a Forester III with Cal Fire. Assembly Bill 2142 adds Humboldt, Del Norte, Mendocino and Sonoma to inland counties previously entered into a three-year Forest Prevention Pilot Project enacted by the passage of AB 744 following the 2013 Rim Fire, which burned 250,000 acres in and around Yosemite National Park, according to a press release from Chesbro's office.
