Typical attitude from politicians whether they are paid or not. It's the POWER they want. If they merge, save tax dollars (and lots of it), they lose their jobs and their POWER. I keep posting on this paper website about the cost of the layers of government and no one seems to care. Think of all the taxes you pay for the same services - some of the money to your locality, some to your county, some to the state and then to the feds all for the same service. If we eliminated all these supervisors, commissioners, school superintendents and staff, police, investigators, prosecutors and legislators, think of the money that you would not pay for taxes. Everyone wants to protect their turf - and the sheep follow by saying that it's great to walk down a block to register their concerns! Like they listen to you anyway!

It makes total sense for them all to be consolidated..but, that would eliminate some "dead weight" counsil positions. Like the jerk said...he likes his little empire.

Doesn't Mr William Thompson's comment just personify the exact reason PA is where it is at today. Change. Everyone is scared of it, especially if you are council president of some two bit town, I mean, that is the pinnacle of his life, of course he won't let go. At a minimum it should go on a ballot. Not certain how old the gentleman is? Me, I am 44, probably a different generation and certainly a different way of thinking. I say consolidate them up, and the commonwealth ought to be offering grants to get those who try over the hump. PA has multiple thousands of jurisdictions and it makes no sense any longer, and, soon, we'll not be able to continue paying for this duplication. Of course, that will probably be after Mr Thompson's generation is about all died off and my generation is left to solve the problems. Shame on all three boroughs, and kudo's to the forward thinkers in NT.

What this country needs is a bigger more centralized government?
These are baby steps toward Big Government being proposed here. Bigger government does not save money. A bigger size community justifies higher salaries and more government employees. The YorkCounts Big Government guys can take a hike. |

This is change YOU could believe in.Ask the taxpayers if they would like to save some money by eliminating two of the three township buildings.

I'd love to see this on the ballot in the next elections in those municipalities for a public vote. They say the people are happy with the way things are but I think they are making that up.
Make them prove it with a vote. |
