"A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, signed a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -- Author Unknown"

Use some common sense. If any prison labor is used it will be non violent prisoners like those serving time for being caught with pot. The farmers can use the H2A visa that has no cap to get all the legal labor they need and with so many Georgians unemployed, there should be some willing to work on farms. But, if you log on to the AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution) you will find very few ads for farm labor, at least that was the case this past week. The farmers were hoping that the special interest groups would stop HB 87 from taking effect and they could continue their slumlord hiring of slave wage labor. With the H2A visa, they will have to pay transportation, provide decent housing (with running water), pay the prevailing wage and carry workman's comp on the laborers. They will no longer be able to bank that extra profit and farms like ours that only use legal labor will be able to compete. Does that tell you why they are crying in their onion fields? Bless their little pea pickin' hearts.

My husband was a POW in Korea, his records burned in 1973 in St. Louis. He had to fight just to get medical treatment from the VA even though his illness was service connected. They had his DD14 with the enlistment date and his release date but nothing else according to them.

What a travesty that so many veterans are subjected to such antics, especially after all they have sacrificed for our nation. Obama should be doing more for our veterans with the same gusto & zeal that he does for the immigrants. Talk about having one's priorities out of order, the US's best interest doesn't even seem to rank on his totem pole of priorities.

I'm not at all fond of Obama but I will say that he was not even in office when my husband died in 2005. It has been years of corruption in our government that has failed our retired military. Some Korean War veterans are still trying to get their benefits and all my husband ever got was his medical treatment and his meds. We fought them for years. It was the same situation for the Vietnam Vets, the Government denied that agent orange had anything to do with their illness's. We had one friend who had a brain tumor that they eventually admitted was caused by agent orange. Unfortunately for him, he died before they ever admitted it. Vets suffering from PSTD are beating their heads against the same walls. How about those Vietnam vets that the government used psychedelic drugs to experiment on them? How about the POW's that were not found for years? How about the Tuskegee Airmen. Our government has committed many atrocities against our military men and I come from a long line of military. Anyone who trusts our corrupt government needs to do some real research on the things they have done.

I sure don't want a murderer touching my banana! No pun intended! LOL You obviously are an idiot. Why pay someone more than the position is worth. It dosent take a scholar to pick fruit. Thats what is wrong with America today. People feel that they should be paid what they believe is a "lucrative" wage regardless of what they are actually doing to earn it. This is why we need to abolish the social programs that support these people. They will either starve of survive, either way they are not a burden on those of us who actually work for a living

I realize that Obama is in his 1st & hopefully only term as POTUS; however, it isn't unknown to the politicians that not enough is being done to assist our veterans. It's bad enough that our troops were and are seen as pawns in so many conflicts; yet, when they should be able to rely on getting the medical & financial support that they need upon returning stateside, they are met with so much bureaucracy that some just give up. That's just wrong! All the presidents that have served to present date have done a great disservice to our men & women who have given their all for this country. The difference with them & this current president is that they weren't putting out a red carpet for anyone to come here illegally, which won't keep extremist from further striking a blow to the US. As for the harvests & the effects: In the past, even if "chain gangs" weren't used to harvest the fields & orchards, it was the farmers, their families, and machinery that was often utilized. Not only that, some would sell straight off their farms...allowing the public to go and harvest what they wanted to purchase. Then with as many people on the dole, would it honestly hurt them to work on a field at least for at least 8 hours per week? Or how about all the homeless...why not try to incorporate them into being part of the solution to harvest the fields. They're already outside most of their time as it is & some hold up signs wanting to work. People won't be able to discriminate against them regarding their inappropriate attire, etc. JMHO.

They're already outside most of their time as it is & some hold up signs wanting to work. People won't be able to discriminate against them regarding their inappropriate attire, etc. JMHO. I've said it before, the farmers in Georgia were holding their breath hoping that the Chamber of Commerce, SPLC, La Raza, etc. would be able to get HB 87 stopped before it passed. They have been using illegal labor for years and they have grown accustomed to pocketing the profit from their illegal endeavors. They could have and still can get all the legal workers they need by using the H2A visa which has no cap. Of course with the H2A visa, they will have to pay transportation, provide decent housing (with running water), pay the prevailing wage, carry workman's comp and compete with farms like ours that do not use illegal labor. There are thousands of Georgians who have lost their jobs due to companies moving off shore (thanks NAFTA), closing down because of the bad economy, lay offs and those who have been displaced by illegal workers in the construction field, fast food, food processing, hotel/motel, landscaping, etc. professions. Many of those workers are reaching the age where they become undesirable new hires because they lost their jobs just a few years before retirement age. There are also all the young people who have recently graduated college or high school who cannot find jobs and the military men returning home who will be looking for work. These farmers want to cry in their onion fields that they can't get workers and their crops will rot but if you look at the AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution) as recently as last week there were no ads for farm help. If you knew that you might lose your workers weeks prior to that possible loss, would you not be advertising for help? Much of the farm work is done by machine and it does not take long to train someone to run a machine in most cases. I can drive our tractor, back hoe, etc. and I'm a 67 year old woman. I help with plowing, planting and harvesting along with taking care of the animals and my two grandchildren. Our politicians want to claim that Americans are lazy but exactly who was doing all these jobs before this country was flooded with illegal aliens who undercut their wages? It's not about not being able to find willing workers, anyone with a family to feed will work or starve, it's about greed. Greed of the farmers, greed of the illegals who come here and work to send money home and greed of the politicians looking for campaign donations from big business like Monsanto.
