Two URI students struck by car, one dies
A University of Rhode Island student has died and her roommate is recovering from injuries after they were struck by a car while crossing a street in Narragansett.
The accident early Sunday claimed the life of Mary Ellen Offer, a 19-year-old sophomore from Woodcliff Lake, N.J. Her close friend and roommate, 20-year-old Holly Maganzini of Wakefield, Mass., was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
Police said the accident happened on a dimly-lit section of Boston Neck Road. No charges have been filed at this point against the driver of the car, but the accident remains under investigation. Read more
