I'm a dog lover, myself. I hate to see one chained up, at least, for any length of time. No animal is more loyal than a dog and they deserving "good care".

But, as we all know that doesn't always happen. I think that as people become more cognizant of chained animals there will be real improvement.

Bingo,,

however, I bet his boyfriend is so proud.

He looks like he got picked on really badly when he was a kid, perhaps he should devote his time to some anti-bullying programs in our schools. As long as there are humans being mistreated I find the whole AR movement a bit goofy.

Hey Eaglecoach and Learn from the Past - Everyone has to pick their battles and since dogs can't talk, people need to stand up for them. They deserve humane treatment.

Eaglecoach - you're the one who needs to get a life and save your energy for something worthwhile; looking for a heart and a brain will probably take most of your time and energy.

Learn from the Past - Perhaps you need to come out of the closet. Usually closet homosexuals are the ones that pick on other people because of their own insecurities. As far as humans being mistreated, there are plenty of groups that work for human rights issues. No one deserves to be abused, including animals. Animals feel pain, just like people, and just like people they deserve to be treated with respect.

Carla and Bryan Wilson - good for you for standing up for what you believe in. There will always be stupid people in the world like Eaglecoach and Learn from the Past but thank goodness not everyone is like them. Ignorance can be cured, stupidity can't. You are working to educate the ignorant - ignore the stupid. It's takes too much time and effort to work with people like that because they don't care.

I'm concerned about the comments attributed to the County's animal control manager. He is quoted as saying that laws may not be changed to limit chaining because low income people who can't afford to fence their yards may still want a pet. WTF? In Florida, keeping a pet out all day (whether chained or not) can still be cruel, due to the heat. If a family can't keep a dog inside at least part of the day in a hot climate, maybe they shouldn't be allowed to adopt from a county shelter.

You are right. I am a college graduate who manages a business that did $55M last year. I have raised 3 children and have 5 grandchildren and enjoy working with different effective association and civic groups as well as spending time with my children and grandchildren. When I find time I will look for a "heart and brain" but in the meantime "this gug needs "to get a life" and who knows maybe you can help
as you seem to have all the requirements of those mentioned by previous writers. Why am I wasting my time I need to start looking?

Eaglecoach - After reading your post, you're right - don't waste your time looking for heart or a brain. You sound much too busy justifying yourself for that.

I'm not sure why it is that people always immediately pat themselves on the back for running a large company when confronted with shortcomings. I don't care what kind of company you run or how much money that company "did" last year. Big deal. And if you work with "effective" association and civic groups as you say (does that mean your local homeowners or condo association - because you sound like one of those "condo commandos") then you would know that education is the key element in raising awareness about issues that effect our society today......and guess what, animal cruelty is on the rise. I'm sorry that you don't care and want to judge other people for doing so.

Good for you for raising 3 children and spending time with your 5 grandchildren. I only hope that you haven't passed on your narrow-minded and petty view of compassion to them.

You have got to be kidding,,, 40 years ago only about half the homes in Florida were air conditioned, and most people understood dogs were animals and belonged outside anyway. If people can actually get along without spending part of their day in the AC and animals don't have AC in the wild, why would you think that it should be some kind of requirement to own one? Logic impairment?

40 years ago the people who treated their animals like babies, or took them everywhere, or gave them the same respect reserved for other human beings were thought of as crazy. ARAs have proven that to be true "A dog = A boy = A rat" is insanity.

It was just a funny, poignant, very succinct quip. However the ol "I know you are but what am I" was a perfect answer from someone with a Pee Wee Herman hairdo,,,,, that is you isn't it Bryan? Patting yourself on the back in the next paragraph sounds like you as well.

I care enough to tilt at windmills,,, to try and inject logic to the chronically illogical.

Caring about the state of humanity is more important than getting 15 min of fame by doing something stupid like wearing a chain in public for publicity. Dogs are not people, it "dumbs down" society to make people think they ought to "put themselves in the dogs shoes".

Wrong!!! The percentage of reported cruelties has risen,, the attention each one recieves has risen exponentially,,, the number of idiots sending PETA and HSUS money because of said stories has gone from $0 to $100,000,000s. This is what I have a problem with, con artists Ingrid Newkirk and Wayne Pacelle using all that money for personal gain and political power, and you are the twits not just letting them but insisting they do it. All to the detriment of Americans everywhere.

In the 60s I knew several adolescents who tortured stray cats to death,(it was one sign not to be friends with them), an unwanted litter of puppies or kittens was simply put in a sack and drowned,, nobody regulated how food animals were treated,, medical researchers were free to do whatever popped into their head with no regard to animal sufferring. To say "animal cruelty is on the rise" is an outright lie.
The public is now aware of all these things and the improvements are immense, the ARAs have gone far enough and animal owners rights are now being infringed. So I will continue to say "enough already".
