Commuter rail could hinge on tolls

One of the biggest sticking points in the debate about the transportation package that would pave the way for commuter rail could have little to do with the Central Florida project itself. via The Orlando Sentinel

I thought rail (that is already built) was the priority, so maybe we don't have to spent as much on "roads", especially in a "lean" budget year. This one smells.

A convenient way of saying they didn't increase any taxes but anything that takes money out of your wallet and into government coffers is still a tax.....toll roads are another way of raising money for the state.

Great. With the struggling economy and Floridians being over taxed, lets raise tolls so that the working people have to pay more. As far as I am concerned it is just another tax. The legislature has blown this right along and now they are justifying raising TAX'S for the railroad link. WHen they had all that money laying around they did nothing, now that the can hurt the little guy lets do it. Time to replace these idiots.

Here we go. They will rake us over the coals to pay for a worthless rail system that will cost zillions forever and will never take one working stiff from the hood to a job. One more reason to elect some brand new people. That must be the "change" the Democrats keep referring to. That last bit of change in your pocket. They will not stop until they manage to steal every dime in your pocket.

THIS IS INTOLERABLE TO THE TAXPAYERS OF THIS STATE! Read it like its written, government whatever (don't what to call you because you're not human!)

Gas is already high, airlines fares are going up, and now you want to take the rail alternative hostage by raising tolls! Screw it- so we won't go to work and let this economy get worse for everyone!!!

All of your this because you need to favor those "special interests" of yours- these dweeb leeches that can't find honest work on their own:

These tollway authorities are spending a fortune on landscaping. Stop the landscaping & either reduce tolls accordingly or spend the money on more roads....DON'T RAISE THE TOLLS.

I have been informing/warning taxpayers and motorists for years that toll taxes are not a "user fee".“User Fees” is nothing but political propaganda and a brainwashing technique by corrupt elected officials.

Toll taxes are a scam against motorists. It has been easy for corrupt elected officials to brainwash taxpayers and they are now going to use toll taxes to raise funds for rail transit. Once again, the state will divert more money from the highway trust fund (the user fees/taxes paid by motorists for use of roads) and depend on toll taxes for roads. Net result, toll taxes support CFL commuter rail. This is fraud and corruption.

Senator Webster (a so-called conservative) is increasing taxes and increasing everyone's cost of living. Call Senator Webster's office - Webster does not have email - he does not want to hear from voters and taxpayers. I just called Webster’s district office and voiced my opposition to increase toll taxes and to use toll taxes for transit. I encourage you to do the same. Let’s overload his voice mail box today!! If you have access to a fax machine, fax your opposition message to his office.

Webster's contact information:

It is time to challenge the unethical actions and abuse of authority of Florida government in court a court of law. Florida government has gone too far and it is time for citizens to take the matter to court. If you are tired of government corruption and you are ready to get involved, send an email to CFL7980@yahoo.com with subject line “Stop Webster’s Toll Abuse”.

Thank you.

"Commuter" rail is NOT designed to go to neighborhoods. "Light" rail would do that, if anything.

You really need to educate yourself about rail projects before commenting.

If they want to increase tolls due to hard times, why didn't they lower the tolls during good times????

Gee more good news.......Just in case we weren't suffering enough already due to gas prices going up by the hour and everything in the grocery store sky rocketing into the next solar system now they want to raise the tolls, how fortunate for others and myself since I personally go though 6 tolls a day.....This just adds insult to injury......The politicians should be ashamed of themselves.....They are destroying the Florida economy. When will the people of Florida say enough is enough and get rid of every single one of these leeches……..

Are you willing to get involved and challenge the corrupt actions of FL government? If yes, email CFL7980@yahoo.com

Please call Webster's office and other FL elected officials as well as FDOT and let them know you have had enough of their unethical and corrupt behavior.

Thank you.

If you noticed, it was a Republican that wants to raise your taxes, aka, tolls or fees.

You're damn right I am.....The working people of Florida are suffering enough.....If I had another alternative route to get to work without using toll roads I would.....Unfortunately, it would cost me more money in gas and travel time to work and back would double...In short....My backs against the wall along with other people in my same situation.......

Webster (a "republican") use to be against this type of fraudulent taxes. Several years back he actually opposed use of highway trust funds for general expenses and abusing toll taxes.

What a difference a few years make. Just look at Webster now and you see why the republican party is dying. He is the typical example of republican hypocrisy.

I am not affiliated with any poltical party. Unfortunately, they promote more corrupt government. Just look at what is happening with the local republican committee. They are trying to block republicans that support Ron Paul. This is Mr. Oliver's handy work. If you are a true conservative, then you cannot be part of today's republican party.

At the same time, if you are are true liberal, then you cannot be part of today's democratic party. The Dems are selling out the middle class at recording breaking rates.

I am an American - not a democrat or republican. Please be an American first and leave the parties behind. They are not worthy of your vote.

Thank you.

If I remember correctly, when the turnpike was paid for the toll was to be removed, instead it has been used as a cash cow. Scammed again by the politicians. Hang on to your wallet, they are not through raiding it.

The question that I have never heard answered is:

Since we do not have a large volume of people living within walking distance to the proposed terminals, where will all of these people park their cars?

Commuters are going to have to drive to a rail station to catch the train, so large parking lots will need to be built!

Actually, about ten years ago when the commuter rail system first came to light (no pun intended) they were looking at Lynx to place hub stations with parking garages along the commuter route....This whole commuter rail system didn't make the "grade" back then and it doesn't make it now (ten years later). This is a total waste of our money (the taxpayers) should they decide to build it, but yet they keep trying to dig this thing out of the grave yard, it needs to stay buried and the shove thrown away....It's time to move on to different ideas with regards to mass transportation....Not raise tolls for a project that will be of little use to anyone and will only hurt the working persons wallet…….
