Ok, puzzled as to how you get 4 counts of murder when only one person died...

The number of 'counts' is not directly connected to how many deaths occurred. Aggrivating circumstances frequently make it so additional counts are chatged. Additional counts could be if the victim were young, or old; if the homicide occurred during the commission of a separate crime; to silence the victim (as in this case) so they don't speak to authorities or testify at trial, if the victim is a law enforcement officer, among many others.

Thanks for the explanation.

I did pretty well in criminal law class long time ago, but never had any real world experience with it. I read a federal indictment once and I recall each count being a predicate act violative of law.

I do think there is some sort of merger whereby one can't be convicted of, for instance, both first and second degree murder because there is a single predicate act and the lesser merges into the greater upon conviction for the greater.

Glad to see the killer locked up, though.

Daily Horoscope for November 12

Cancer

You'll be quite happy at home tonight, as the Moon transits your fourth house of home and family; however, your mate may want to go out on the town. You'll be torn between what you want to do and what your most significant other desires. Don't go out if you think you will be miserable; that will only start a fight. Be honest about the way you feel, and don't be hurt if you spend the evening alone this time.
