The new four-lane U.S. 35 in Putnam County, built in-part so motorists could avoid what had become a dangerous stretch of the previous two-lane highway, claimed its first life last week.

A Putnam County man who accidentally shot a woman in the face near his home in Pliny has been sued by his insurance company and the woman he shot.

Putnam County commissioners approved a 2.5 percent pay increase for most county employees Tuesday.
