Pavilion space cleared

As of last week, the downtown Winder pavilion is officially gone. Utilities Director Roger Wilhelm said the grassing of the empty lot was finished Thursday afternoon, and there were a few hours of final cleanup and rolling new grass last Friday morning.

Winder purchases land in order to improve Broad, Highway 82 intersection

The Winder City Council purchased this corner lot of land for $450,000 in order to make it easier to turn right onto N. Broad when coming into town from the east on Highway 82. The City of Winder approved Tuesday a payment of $450,000 to purchase the property at the corner of East Broad and Broad Streets.

Hundreds of runners come out for Summer's End

The 32nd Annual Summer's End race took place in downtown Winder on Saturday. Despite intermittent rain and pervasive cloudiness, 426 participants came out for the event, which started off at the Old Train Depot with the 10K run at 7 a.m. The 5K started at 8:15 and the one-mile fun run began at 9:15.

The Department of Family and Children Services is investigating the incident after the Barrow County Sheriff's Office was called to Cedar Creek Apartments in Winder on Aug. 2 after a parent said the child fell 20 feet from a second story window.
