Legislators OK overseas bonus

Call it an early "Thank You" card. Bay State servicemen and women returning home from their second and third tours of duty overseas will receive an added $500 bonus under a sweeping new law approved by House lawmakers yesterday.

"The authors of the legislation said the bill will not cost taxpayers a dime, with the money being used to pay additional benefits coming from reserves and unspent money in existing accounts. The legislation said the increased bonuses will only last as long as sufficient funds are available. "
I think it's great we're helping our vets. However I find this statement very troubling, how much exactly do we have floating around? reserves and unspent money while every city and town is taking it up the but right now!

I think it is great that our legislators have finally stepped up to the plate, but have only check swung on this one. This legislation DOES NOT include ongoing funding and when the current reserves dry up there will be nothing left for our future veterans. Shame on you for not standing behind what you believe in to provide real legislation that will make a difference for years to come.

the vets should get more then that, 2 or 3 tours, and thats all they get, instead of giving 7 billion dollars to india, they should of given it to these find young men and women.
