As long as Northrop can get billions of tax money to build more death weapons who cares? This is just another market correction.

I sypmathize with anyone that is hungry and I know the feeling --it sucks. However Los Angeles is running out of money to take of some of the basic programs that it shold fund. This is a result from trying to do much for too many. We must as a state start saying "enough is enough" we can not take of the world when we can not even take care of our own.

Because the parents blow their money on booze, spinner rims, and cell phones.

What goes up wrote: As long as Northrop can get billions of tax money to build more death weapons who cares? This is just another market correction. And the first post on this is another member of the insane fringe. The only difference between "transfer payments" to aerospace vs out right "grants" to people is that we all get technology from aerospace. That big screen TV, thank aerospace. Those SOLAR CELLS, thank aerospace. Gifts to the "poor" just grow public employee unions. They get the vast majority of the money. Recipients get less than 20% of government handouts. So, if we're going to have handouts, lets get the best possible return.

This is a misleading article, I have friends whose children attend this camp at a cost of no less than $70 per child, this article makes it sound as if these children are starving, as if the hard working parents cannot provide for their children as well as if the city is going out of their way to feed the starving children these cities. This is a "Summer Program" where each parent pays a fee for each child to be part of this program. Please print facts and not misleading articles, this is unprofessional and could hurt some of these parent's feelings, not surprising for the media to twist the facts and mislead the information that is feed to the public.

Lets see, if someone will buy you lunch everyday would you take it or spend your own money. Especially if you are illegal and your job is drying up.
If you want to have Sonja, or any other reporter, show up to write a story, offer them a free lunch.
I guess this means that "HUNGER" is increasing.
(Another example of "advocate journalism" brought to you by the liberals at the Daily Breeze and their Democrat handlers.)

Bottom line...
If you can't afford to feed your kids, why did you have them?

Patrick San Pedro wrote: Friends: There are no starving people in Wilmington. The median home price is around $400,000. Look at the picture published...Do they look poor and homeless to you? No, they are children of illegal aliens who have been directed to another free hand out. If these kids are starving then what are the illegal parents doing with all the FREE WIC and WELFARE food they get? The Wilmington YWCA is filled with people who don't speak English. The signs and paperwork is all Spanish. They serve Illegal Aliens and not Americans. Check out the parking lot. Then tell me if you think these illegal aliens are dirt poor. If you visit the areas around the schools when they let out you will see "students" wearing the latest in gang clothing. The parents find money for this. Oh! and cell phones....Everyone of them seem to have one. I think the American Tax Payer is starting to catch on to this rip-off. I saw the picture and a see a beautiful smart girl. Her parents are not illegal aliens. I know, I am her mother. Please do not post your assumptions and projections when you do not have the real facts about these programs or cities. Not everyone is illegal.

If you are the mother, then why are you allowing your daughter to be exploited in a lie about kids starving in Wilmington? Is your family starving? Are you accessing tax payer funded social services? Should you be reported to Child Protective Services for starving a child in Wilmingotn, CA. in 2008? Please let's get real here.

I didn't want her exploited in a lie. I simply didn't know the how the article was going to turn out in the end. We do not get to see the finished product until it was out.
Geez,No, we are not starving. The media simply portrayed her picture in my opinion in a negative way. I am upset to see her picture like this and to see people like you comment and judge people incorrectly with out real facts.

Here's one example of waste. My ex refuses to pay child support for over 10 years. He works under the table and he receives GENERAL RELIEF. He gets a monthly check and food stamps. There is no qualifying for this program. All you have to do is go down and sign up for it. Also, there is no time limit. I was told by a case worker (who's english was very limited) that he can be on it forever. We can thank the LA County Board of Supervisors for that, Antonovich, Molina and the rest of the crew. What a great system.

No, no, no........ The article is not reporting PRIVATE/FEE required Summer Programs. The article is about "Free Summer Lunch Programs" that are free to any one under the age of 18 years old. Thay are usually served at local parks, it is a state funded program. The same program that prepares L.A. County's school lunches. I think you have misunderstood the article. There are plenty of kids that do not go hungry. On the otherhand there are plenty of children that benefit from this program. There are more children participating in the free program, this is what is being reported. With the outrageous food and gas prices, this is a way to help save a couple dollars. For some families, they are feeding more than 1 child.$2.70 is such a minimal amount, but of course the state is complaining. This country has it's priorities screwed up.

What a great system. I agree, My new husband suppots my 2 kids from a previous relationship (and we have 1 child together). It is awful, that my ex gets every low income benefit available in this lame state. My ex and his wife live in a custom built home in Rivituso, New Mexico (beautiful retirement town), drive a brand new SUV, suited and booted, have a kid, and are able to support his drug habit, and receive low income benefits in California and theirs. It is a shame, this has been going on for 6-7 years. Injustice for my kids, your kids, asn every other sinlge/broken home in America. But if you or I tried it, they would garnish our wages!!!!!!!!!!
