Protest mixed over the bikini baristas
A protest in Bonney Lake that centered on scantily-clad baristas drew opinions from both sides of the issue throughout the Memorial Day weekend.
The protest was scheduled in response to the May 13 City Council meeting after a group of Plateau residents, the Citizens for Bonney Lake, planned to host a protest and clothing drive to benefit baristas who allegedly wear pasties and see-through underwear while on the job.
The two Bonney Lake businesses at the center of attention were Cowgirls Espresso, located on state Route 410, and the Hot-Chick-A-Latte Espresso, on the Sumner-Buckley Highway.

Reward offered following Wilkeson shooting
A shot rang out about 5 a.m. Easter Sunday, whizzed directly over a sleeping family and left a small puncture hole in the wall of their Wilkeson home.
A span of perhaps a dozen inches kept a senseless act of random violence from becoming a drive-by shooting.
The unsolved crime was the most dangerous element of a shooting spree that left a handful of residents and merchants rattled and had law enforcement authorities springing into action.
In short order on the morning of March 23, bullets hit four houses, two businesses and two automobiles. Read more

Monday snowfall leaves trouble in its wake
An early morning snowstorm hit the Plateau and Puget Sound region Monday morning dropping about 3 inches of snow, closing schools and snarling traffic.
By 5 a.m. the Enumclaw, White River and Carbonado school districts had closed schools due to the slippery road conditions.
In Enumclaw, city crews were out sanding streets, but plows were put on hold. Public Works Director Chris Searcy said the plowing would come if the forecast called for greater accumulations of snow.
Pierce County sent 22 snowplows and sanding units out across the area as snow continued to fall through the morning hours. Read more

School board hears more about 'septage' proposal
“This is an extremely sensitive area.”
The White River School Board intends to host a public meeting where it will take comments regarding the proposal to allow septic waste to be sprayed on district-owned property between Wilkeson and Carbonado.
That date has yet to be set, but to help them get a better grasp of the pros and cons of the matter, district officials brought in a nine-person panel to present information to the board and the public during a Nov. 28 workshop.
A crowd of around 80, mostly Carbonado residents, squeezed into the White River School District board room to listen to three hours of details. The meeting was strictly to gather information and no decisions were made. Read more
