A person was struck by a train near Lloyd Road in Wickliffe early Thursday morning, an Amtrak spokesperson said.

THEFT, CEDAR ROAD: On Jan. 29, a University Heights woman, 18, was arrested for shoplifting $1,955.03 worth of merchandise from Dillards.

Kathy Stanich, who created her Military Pride gift shop in Wickliffe as the result of her son and daughter enlisting in the Marines, said the store has become a gathering spot for veterans and families of troops deployed overseas.

In an effort to cut costs, the City of Wickliffe recently switched waste-hauling services.

Wickliffe's Green Ridge Golf Course provides the setting for the fourth annual Winterfest this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Tim Stopp, recreation director for the city, explains that the free festival "is designed to highlight winter activities that are offered at Green Ridge." The city purchased the 1920s golf course and clubhouse in 2003.
