Superdawg is over priced and believes its own press. 10 bucks for a dog and a shake is a bit much.

How much did they pay the Travel Channel to profile the place?

I brought a kid there who wanted ketchup on his dog and I got verbally abused and told "tell the kid that ketchup don't go on hot dogs" What ever happened to the customer is always right? If I want something on the dog, that's what I want and who are they to tell someone they are an idiot for wanting XXXX on the dog? I ended up ordering it plain and asking for ketchup for the fries. They won't be getting any more of my money and I can see the lot isn't as full as it used to either.

Fluky's had a few joints in the suburbs. It didn't work.

If you are from Chicago, you do not get ketchup on a hot dog....SuperDawg is a Chicago establishment following Chicago rules. You want ketchup on your hot dog? Go to New York, or ask for it on the side!

I have been going to SuperDawg for close to 40 years. And yeah, prices have gone up. Name a place on this planet where prices haven't gone up. The price of gas has gone up from 30 cents when to started driving to over $4.00, and now back to about $2.75. So don't go picking on SuperDawg for their prices. Go eat at Mcdonald's.

Super ripoff, you should also add the size of the dog to be fair.

Who made you the hot dog police?

Kids like ketchup on everything, including hot dogs. I personally prefer NY style (Mustard & Kraut on a grilled dog) but I'll eat it after it was dragged through the garden. My point was getting verbally abused for trying to get a kid a hot dog the way THE KID wanted it.

I still think they are overpriced and are living off their reputation.

super rip off - sewist was making a comparison on how the prices on everything in this country have risen over the years, and that Superdawg was just keeping up. Also there is no reason to write: "THESE JEWS ARE OUT OF THERE MIND FOR CHARGING SO MUCH." That is immature and offensive. And you say gas prices have nothing to do with the price of hot dogs, and yet you bring up insurance companies and health care?

Stoughton - I'm sorry you had a bad experience when you visited. I have never heard of such an incident before and I have been going there for as long as i can remember. True, they refuse to put ketchup on the hotdogs (it's a Chicago thing), but they always bring you a bottle of it on your tray because they know some people out there like to have it.

Basically, the place has been around forever, they have great food, and the experience (usually, Stoughton) is wonderful! The prices are higher than the usual hole in the wall or street vendor, but that's because it's typically better quality and you don't feel like you're going to be stabbed and mugged while there.

And, I might add, SuperDawg does NOT use the generic Vienna natural casing 8 to the pound hot dog that most hot dog joints use (even though I love those too!!). They have their hot dogs custom made with a special recipe that a lot of us LOVE!

If I remember the last time I had a SuperDawg, it was $4.75 for the dog and fries. Most hot dog places on the North Shore that serve a Vienna beef product charge $2.25-$2.75 for the dog PLUS $1.25-$1.75 for the fries.

I don't think that SuperDawg is THAT out of line on their pricing!

On the South Side of Chicago, you can get a dog and fries for $2. What you usually get is a 12 or 10 to the pound skinless hot dog. To me, it makes a BIG difference!

I like Gene N Judes as well.....however...they use a 10 to the pound skinless dog. The fries, packed into the hot dog wrapping, while tasty, makes them soggy due to the steam. TOTALLY different meal! Good...but different.

Go to ANY hot dog spot north of Madison Avenue and order 2 hot dogs and fries. MINIMUM is $8. WOW....$2 more for a different product??????
