City considers water tap for county airport
Representatives of the City of Trinidad and Las Animas County met May 13 with representatives of the Sunflower Valley Pipeline Association (SVPA) to discuss providing the county with a new water tap for its airport.
The county's request for extra water for the Perry Stokes Airport is not a new one. The acquisition of the extra water, however, had been previously thwarted by the moratorium placed by Trinidad over the last few years on the selling of water taps.
The county requested a four-inch water tap for the airport. A four-inch tap was stated by SVPA Director Ralph Gagliardi as being the equivalent of nine three-quarter-inch taps. The county currently owns three water taps for the airport, with two currently in use. One tap services the terminal building, the other services the Road and Bridge shop.

Homeowners Feel Heat in West Coal Boom
“People actually put dummies in the windows of stores (in Trinidad) to make it look like something was there besides vacant storefronts.”
A hamlet near here of wooded gulches, rocky outcrops and views of the snowy tops of southern Colorado's Sangre de Cristo mountains is the perfect escape for retirees and telecommuters who've settled in.
But people who bought lots on the 4,000-acre North Fork Ranch about 200 miles south of Denver, hoping to leave behind big-city hassles, worry when they flip on a switch or take a drink of water. They're afraid that volatile methane gas from drilling in the area's coal seams could seep into their water wells or migrate inside their homes. Read more
