Background Checks Help Churches Uncover the Unexpected

Honestly when I read this I could not believe it. Background checks in church? Is that not judging people? I thought we were trying to get the lost in church. Jesus said to go in to jail where the felonions and murders are. Where the wrongdoers can hear the word of God and be saved. I thought the church was built to get people saved, not to have employers. I can't understand this. Jesus came to save the lost not the christian. If we don't let the lost in the church, then Jesus died in vein. David killed a guy and God still saved him. Do we think God can't save a felonion the same way. I am sorry but I just can't see any right in background checks in church. We are all sinners saved only by the grace of God through Jesus Christ. We do not run background checks on him do we. I thought the church was a non-profit thing, but if we have employees we are a business. I just think we need to be more like Jesus and less like the world. I see people in this town that confesses they are a christian, but I see them doing things and going to places that are not very Christ like. Do we run a check on them? I think Jesus came to save the sinners not the rightous. And if we are running our churches like a business then they need to pay taxes like a business. I just don't understand all this. I just remember what Jesus said, the last will be first, and the first will be last. I feel the church needs to spend more time getting people saved and in church, and less time worring about what they have done in their past. We all have done things that are not perfect or are we perfect? I think that is a question that we must ask ourselves. Are we perfect? Thank You

Sorry but I had to come back to this. It bothered me that much. In fact it if people say they are a Christian is should bother them also. Our churches are splitting left and right. We are have young people dieing lost and without God in their lives. And we have time to run background checks on people coming to church. Our Bible says to go into the highways and byways and invite the lost in. It did not say run a background check to see if they are up to our standands. That is more like a country club would do. Jesus was sent here for all men and women and children, not a few. No wonder our churches or splitting and kids dieing lost. We quit practicing what the Bible says. It don't say anything about background checks and it don't say anything about employees either. I thought we did it because we love Jesus and we did it for FREE. I hope God puts this on somebody else like he has me. No wonder people don't go to church around here. I believe when a person gets saved all the past is gone in the eyes of God. He is not going to bring that back up. It is covered by the blood. I do believe people that do not live right can backslide from God, but can still repent and be back in the grace of God again. But I don't think it is Man's job to run background checks on anyone. God knows if they doing right, he don't need any help. No wonder people around here are talking about each other and what they have done. Honestly that is nobody's business other than that person and God. I am really disappointed to find this out about our little town. I think God maybe a little upset with us to. Remember it says Judge not or you will be judge the same. I love all of you guys, but I really did get upset with all this.

I was riding through town tonight at about 6 or so and got to thinking. I did not see anybody going to church or anything like that. No wonder we are losing young kids to death and drugs. Our churchs have turned to background checks, sports, city government and everything else other than what they should but doing. They don't have church on Sunday night, you don't see pastors going to hopitals, visiting people asking them to come to church. I feel that all our pastors care about is how much money they get on a salary. Will I looked in my Bible for salaries and guess what, it is not there. So are we doing wrong. Will if it is not there then we must be. I don't see any good coming until our churches change their ways. Maybe God needs to run a background check, oh sorry he does everyday. Thank You

I don't know if anyone reads this or not, but I feel the need to say what I feel needs to be said. I heard church leaders speak about people drawing money from the government and don't work for it. I do feel this is right, I have to work so they should also. The problem I have is that the church leaders in this area that speak this don't work either. Is that not having the tea pot call the kiddle black. God's money is not to make some pastor rich, but for the building of the kingdom of God. The Bible don't say anything about paying the pastor or anyone else for working in the church. I feel people are taking God's money for their own benifits not the work God meant it to be used for. I am not jumping the pastors and the one's that work in the churches, but let's get real about things. It is not in the book, so it must be wrong, is that not what is teaches. If you don't work don't eat and that means everybody. Sorry but that is the facts.

Background checks are not for those who want to go to church... they are for those who want to work with the children and youth of the church. All sinners are welcome in church, no background check required... but if you want to be a mentor, child care provider or teacher... parents would appreciate knowing that their children are not in the hands of those who have criminal records and could endanger their children. There are plenty of other opportunities for people to get involved in the church in other ways if they feel their past history may come up to haunt them. Those that have repented and have turned their lives around could certainly make that case with the church leadership if they felt strongly about working with the kids. Perhaps you should get your facts straight before going off on a rant.

Thank you for that Debi. I was not trying to go off on a rant, what ever that is. And yes I understand what you are say about people working with kids. I guess I am just a little to soft hearted. I just believe that if a person is forgiven their sins, that their past is just that. I am not perfect in anyway and never will be. But I just trust people no matter what they have done in their is between them and God. My example is the woman they were going to stone in the street for saling herself. Jesus said go and sin no more, ask to say your sins are gone and will never be brought up again. And I wonder how she would feel if man ran a check on her and brought it back up again after Jesus told her that. I know it would hurt me. Just my opinion, but we are sinners saved by the grace of God, so who am I to check on others past. I know sometimes things happen. But I know a lot of people who have done wrong, really bad things that are wanting to go to church and learn about Jesus, but will not because they are afraid somebody will check their past. I have heard some say that. So are we falling them? Have we lose faith that God can't protect our kids. That is all I am saying. We are to go out in the highways and hedges and bering them in. In other words the lowest places in the world and bring them in. But I never seen or read in my Bible about checking their past. You know why I have not read that? It is not there. I just trust God to take care of my kids. He knews more than I do. I did not mean to make anyone mad, just make a point. If God saves a person I have to put my trust in God that that person will sin no more. Honestly I do think we as the church are falling. Even David had a guy killed, but I feel he repented and is in Heaven today. I am sorry if I went a little over board, but I see people dieing here in our town all the time, and some young kids that have never been in a church. Never heard the word of God just because they have been in trouble before and are afraid somebody will say something about that. I feel we need to focus on what they can become and not what they were. Thank You
