Bill would require convicts to attend sentencing

A New Hampshire lawmaker wants to require violent offenders to attend their sentencing hearings, in the wake of a dispute that arose in the case of a man convicted of raping and killing a 19-year-old college student. Rep. Renny Cushing - a Hampton Democrat whose father and brother-in-law were murdered - says he was outraged when 31-year-old Seth Mazzaglia - wanted to skip his sentencing on first-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott, of Westborough, Massachusetts.

Appeal notice filed in slain college student case

Lawyers for a man sentenced to life without parole for raping and killing a University of New Hampshire student have filed a mandatory notice of appeal, raising questions about evidence that was excluded and testimony that was allowed saying he was prone to homicidal rages and threats. Seth Mazzaglia received the maximum sentence last month for the Oct. 9, 2012, killing of 19-year-old Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott of Westborough, Massachusetts.

Selectmen have mixed reaction to Ocean State Job Lot alcohol proposal

Westborough-A proposal to add beer and wine sales at the Ocean State Job Lot store on Milk Street drew a mixed reaction from the Board of Selectmen Sept. 9. OSJL Spirits LLC applied for a beer and wine license for the recently expanded store at 180 Milk St., located in the Westmeadow Plaza, saying it would use about 600 square feet of the 37,000-square foot store to carry out the license.
