Commenting on the number of small businesses along Route 14 in Bethel and Royalton, he added, "we don't have any businesses here except tourism."

More calls stretch responders' capacity
“Until there is a resolution, we aren't going anywhere.”
WEST FAIRLEE-There will likely be some changes to the service area in 2008 between the town of West Fairlee and the Thetford FAST Squad, but no specific date has yet been determined. Negotiations are ongoing between the Thetford FAST Squad and the West Fairlee Selectboard with the hope of coming to some kind of agreement that will avoid an interruption in emergency response service to West Fairlee, while limiting the burden on the FAST Squad.
The issues stems from problems that may arise as squad members respond to emergency calls in West Fairlee-far from their base in Thetford Center. At present, Thetford's service area is stretched to capacity and they need to focus on their core area, lest they become compromised. Read more

Brushwood Forest gains momentum
FAIRLEE-West Fairlee and Fairlee residents will be hearing a lot about West Fairlee's proposed Brushwood Community Forest in the coming months as they must make some decisions on town meeting day.
With the help of the Trust for Public Land (TPL), the town of West Fairlee is working to create its first town forest of up to 1,200 acres of forest land straddling the West Fairlee-Fairlee town line. The proposed forest will encompass the 660 acres of Bradford water commission land in the two towns as well as abutting privately owned properties, linking the Bradford forest with the existing 1,400-acre Fairlee Town Forest.
