Thats the coolest thing I've ever heard West Covina do! Can't wait for the Rose Parade now.

But as for a float honoring White Veterans is an asinine idea. We have money with our White founding fathers, memorials to our White presidents, even war memorials that honor White veterans. I mean its taken almost 250 years just to get a Black president, we had to have the bloodiest war in our history and a constitutional amendment to actually count Black people as a full person and abolish slavery. And even that couldn't even give Black people the right to vote! So to honor minorities who fought for this country even without the respect that was given to his White counterpart is the least we can do! And that is why having a float that honors just White veterans is a asinine.

What a monumental waste of money this - and the whole parade charade - is. Donate the money to the schools, help the homeless...anything is better than this waste of money.

This race crap should end once and for all. Have the float honoring all veterans, and leave it at that.

We are supposed to have a color blind society, but we don't.

Hmmm...the blacks that served, were they not Americans when they served? And wouldn't our honors to those who served include the blacks that served too?
As long as we continue to catgorize the races, racism lives on.

Honors go to all those who served our country regardless of their ethnic background and I salute them all.

right, sure, keep on beatin' those race drums...

and then complain about racism in the next breath...

my grandpa fought in two wars - WWII and Korea - and for you to say to honor him is asinine just shows how backwards you are. Catch up, slowpoke.

I have always thought that the West Covina float was a big waste of money. I would like to see the money used for a good cause. But on the other hand, They deserve to be honored! Its a great float!

wow everyone took what I said the wrong way! no one said anything about just honoring Black veterans all the time. No one said anything about not honoring other Veterans either. I have relatives too that fought in both WWII and the Korean War. We should honor all veterans but to complain about this idea is crazy! You guys completely missed the point.

To say this is a color blind society or that racism doesn't still exist is crazy. You know, Princeton did a study about two years ago that said that an African-American with no criminal history looking for a job had about the same chances of landing a job as a White man with a felony. Racism does exist and get over it.

We can have floats dedicated to the Windtalkers, floats dedicated to the Japanese that fought with us during WWII; I would like to see a seperate float for each group, but this is the group they selected. My main point was this, minorities are very rarely celebrated in our society, and when they are people get all upset like you fine folks that they decided to do such a thing.

But really, I doubt that any of you will see my side. Most people who have never dealt with racism never understand it in the first place. I guess thats why America has so many different worlds.

...and lets not forget why they are all Black since that seems to be a problem with you all. They are all Black because the War Department tried to keep African Americans from being pilots. Congress tried to allow African-Americans to pilot but the War Department placed a lot of unfair restrictions (such as education) to restrict Black men from serving as pilots. Luckily the Tuskeegee Institute had been educating many African Americans at the time and a few qualified. Those that qualified were considered the Tuskeegee Airmen. That is why they are all Black.

They overcame adversity and racism to serve a country that treated them so unfairly. That is why it is so cool that West Covina is doing this.
