Harbormaster Joseph Borlikoski told selectmen last night there is no need to have a certified harbormaster or spend a lot of money to upgrade his job of overseeing boating and swimming activities on Lake Wickaboag, off Route 9. Mr.

The Lake Wickaboag Preservation Association is planning its 14th annual lake cleanup day, from 9 a.m. to noon May 26 at the town beach.

Some residents here may question the value of spending money to hire someone to oversee activities on Lake Wickaboag, but proponents believe a certified harbormaster is needed sooner, rather than later, to protect the lake as a valuable natural resource.

Local musician Dick Chase describes it as, "A perfect, Norman Rockwell day!" and adds, "It is the perfect New England event." Indeed it may be, with an eclectic mix of 100 vendors and some unique and exotic food, including grilled asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, oven-fired asparagus pizza and the most amazing asparagus chowder.

The state has awarded Brimfield, Brookfield, East Brookfield, Warren and West Brookfield a $58,000 grant so they can buy a sign-making machine and an asphalt roller and trailer to share in recovering from the June 2011 tornado and October snowstorm.

NORTHAMPTON - A 52-year-old West Brookfield man pleaded innocent Wednesday to charges that he sexually assaulted a woman last fall at an emergency shelter set up at the Ware High School.
