This has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard of! Waverly is not a place where anyone important is going to live and be upset about yard sales! Good God are you people crazy?

No city should charge you to sell something out of your own yard! Someone has to pay property tax on the property to begin with! Nwxt they will be putting up toll booths to drive through the towns! Oh should have kept my mouth shut on that idea, they may steal and do it! hahahahaha

At $1.00, paying the fee is not about making money as it costs more to administer and print the permit for posting than any revenue this generates. However, it is about imposing control on the residents and creating work for city employees to justify a bloated payroll. Someone has to issue and track the permit holder's authorized display days, and ultimately someone has to enforce the new requirements. If you thought having a meter maid downtown was wasted overhead expense, wait to see how much effort goes into policing and monitoring yard sales in Waverly. There is an ulterior motive and it focuses on generating revenue through enforcement as the fines can be escalated due to non-compliance. Sounds petty but when you sit and think of ways to clean up a small town, granny's yard sale is an easy target for throwing government control around to make additional revenue. In a village the size of Waverly, it is silly. Another small town attribute targeted while the elected officials ignore the real problem of their wasteful spending in face of depleted income. I can understand how one individual on council could come up with such a silly idea. I'll never understand how the majority agreed to it. It says a great deal about how far we have fallen as a community in electing our leadership. I'm sure they are proud of this worthy accomplishment.

You can thank the "junk man" who has his year long yard sale on state route 220 for the permits. I'm from Cincinnati originally and they charge $10 for a yard sale permit and there is no two day sale, no signage of any kind, and it has to be in your back yard to boot. No one has given any permit money to the city either...so who's really enforcing it? And wasn't there something about getting fined if your signs were hung up past your yard sale? Puhlease...I saw a yard sale sign from June 10th the other day and it was at the corner by Jessica's attic.

We are a city dammit!!!! We need to act like Cincinnati and then maybe 600 more people will move in.

It was for those people that have yard sales day after day, weekend after weekend, the neighbors complaining, the streets are clogged, strange people walking around and on and on. That's the real reason, and all they're asking for is a dollar, and you know as well as I do that's not going to stop anything because like I said, a dollar isn't going to break the bank, the fines, maybe, but idk what the fines are. But yeah, big government, "the man", yeah it just makes for good drama.

I agree paying for having a yard sale to get. Rid of the stuff u no longer want, two reasons why people have yards sales. 1. To get extra cash. 2. These people are thinking of others. Instead of throwing on the trash which they easily could have. So why is the city after them? I hate pc people control.

My mother and I were discussing just this tonight. we live in a city that has been downsized to a village, but they still live on that big budget the taxpayers never get to see. where does this money go?? no fireworks for waverly,, go to Dailyville for that,, or piketon or beaver for the love of mercy, but NOT waverly!! we cant afford that! we pull people over and write tickets to the trash crew at softball games, we 'bust' pill houses and take their money and put them back out to sell more drugs, and so on... dont matter what you do in this town, all they want is your money!$$$$ but WHERE IS IT GOING??? where is the community support and activities for the kids to keep them from straying into a bad life that is so readily available and easier to accept. would they just rather wait until our kids finally go so stir crazy with nothing to do until they find that percocet at age 12 to kill the time, so they can bust them, send them to jdc and guess what? FINE them with court costs, ticket charges and what not. why cant the money go to making this a better place to live instead of making it a money grubbing contest while the civillians get ignored and the officials get nicer cars. Im proud to be American,, but im damn shamed to say I am a native to this city. such a sorry sorry situation. good luck to all those out there!

If you are sorry to say you are a native of this city/village then why don't you move somewhere that you don't have to complain about. And by the way it is not anyone else's responsibility to keep your kids from straying into a bad life. They're your kids. You should make sure they don't stray. As a member of the older generation I got my ass busted to keep me from straying. Try getting away from the tv and the internet and spend time doing something with your children instead of wanting someone else to do it. The problem to day is that there are to many people like you who think it is someone else's responsibility to take care of the kids that you chose to bring into the world. By the way there are empty homes in Dailyville and Piketon for you to move into.

Since you not a native born citizen of Waverly, you move out. I think your parents hit you in the brain that you sat on all of the time. Take your gray hair, old ways and keep your mouth shut.

"As a member of the older generation I got my ass busted to keep me from straying. " Had you grown up in today's society, your parents would have been arrested and you put in juvenile detention. Get a grip, griper.
