Wright City settles with fired inspector
Wright City's liability insurance company has agreed to pay $32,500 to settle the city's dispute with former building inspector Ronnie Mershon over his dismissal in July.
The city's insurance policy with Meadowbrook Insurance Group covered most of the settlement amount. The policy includes a $5,000 deductible, which must be paid by the city, according to Wright City Mayor Roy White.
"I know my client was satisfied with the result," said Joan Swartz, Mershon's attorney. She said the settlement already has been paid.

Wright City voters approve school bond issue
Wright City voters approved a school bond issue Tuesday night by a slim margin.
The Project KIDS bond issue, as it was called during the campaign, will provide a new track, irrigate the football and baseball fields and provide air conditioning for schools.
The initiative passed with 59.9 percent of voters’ approval. The issue required a four-sevenths majority, or more than 57 percent to win.
Proposition KIDS passed despite a mailer opposing the issue that was sent to some residents last week. According to some voters, it claimed the district paid too much for architect and engineering work.

Fire engulfs truck in Wright City
What started as a tire fire on a semi truck Thursday in Wright City escalated into 20-foot flames when the fire spread to the truck’s trailer that was filled with petroleum-based plastic pallets.
Driver Terry McCool, of Hermann, was westbound on Interstate 70 about 5 p.m. when he heard thumping noises coming from the tires, he said.
He exited at mile 199 in Wright City and pulled into the Shell gas station on the North Service Road, where he realized his front tires were smoking. He moved the tractor-trailer behind the gas station, which shares its building with a McDonald’s.

'Welcome home, warriors'
Before Sunday, James Street Jr. had seen his 7-month-old son, James Street III, for just 10 days.
"Daddy missed most of the pregnancy and the birth," said Heather Street, little James' mother and James Jr.'s wife. "We had the webcam, and he got to come home on leave for 10 days in August."
But he did hear James' first cry by cell phone immediately after he was born on Aug. 8, said his mother-in-law, Linda Leonard.
James Street Jr., of Warrenton, and others from the 3175th Military Police Co. based at the Warrenton Armory received a warm welcome home at the Warrenton Armory on Sunday after their yearlong deployment to Kosovo ended.
Emergency service providers and the American Legion Freedom Riders escorted buses carrying the soldiers to the Armory.
