Demise of Berlin Wall was dream come true
It was a cool, crisp day in November 1989. My 6-year-old crawled under a 12-foot-high concrete wall, peeked through a large hole in the structure and yelled, "I'm in the east now." We climbed the stairs to the top of a tall, empty tower where German sharpshooters had taken the lives of those below far too often and much too easily.
He was the first governor and U.S. senator from South Dakota who was born in the state.
