The federal government's decision to phase out subsidized insurance in special flood hazard areas will increase costs for 168 property owners in Douglas County.

City infrastructure improvement projects for the week of October 28
The City of Lawrence Public Works Department and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway will coordinate the removal of an unused rail spur in downtown Lawrence starting on Sunday, October 27. The removal will cause disruption of traffic for commuters on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Some Kansas horse owners are looking for new homes for their animals because they can't pay rising hay prices, while in a few cases the owners have simply stopped feeding them altogether.
