Visalia man sentenced for attempted murder of wife

A Visalia man who tried to kill his wife has been sentenced to 64 years to life in prison, the Tulare County District Attorney's Office said Thursday. Two years ago Brent Pullin, 67, entered a bedroom at the couple's home and shot his wife twice with a .38 revolver, then left the room, the District Attorney's Office said.

Visalia's bullpen came to the rescue after the early departure of starter Andrew Barbosa, with five relievers combining to allow two runs over the final seven innings as the Rawhide beat Bakersfield 7-2 Tuesday night to clinch the California League's North Division title. The Rawhide advanced to the best-of-five championship series for the first time since 2006 and are seeking their first Cal League title since 1978, when the Class-A franchise was called the Oaks.

Visalia student who posted shooting threat on Twitter may face charges

A Visalia high school student has been released from juvenile hall after threatening to shoot students at a rival school in the wake of a losing football game, and prosecutors are considering charges of making criminal threats. The 16-year-old Mount Whitney High School student made the threat in a Twitter message late Friday or early Saturday morning, Visalia police said.

Visalia police investigating crash that killed woman pedestrian

A woman died of injuries suffered Monday night when she was hit while standing on Noble Avenue in east Visalia, police reported. Sgt. James Andrews of the police traffic unit said a woman driving a GMC Sierra pickup eastbound on Noble west of McAuliff Street when she hit the woman, who suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at Kaweah Delta Medical Center.

Visalia firefighters get out just before house roof collapses

A fire that started in the attic of a Visalia home just east of El Diamante High School early Tuesday caused the roof to collapse just as firefighters were getting out of the house, the fire department reported. The fire was reported at 12:19 a.m. at 4746 W. Country Court in southwest Visalia.

Police: 2 Visalia teens arrested for throwing objects at passing cars

Visalia police arrested two men early Sunday morning for throwing unidentified objects at passing vehicles on the 600 block of South Demaree Street. Anthony Esparza, 19, and Matthew Solorio, 18, were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Tulare County Jail.

Fed jury indicts former Riverdale High band director in sex-video case

A federal grand jury returned a three-count indictment Thursday charging former Riverdale High School band director Steven Christopher Montes with three counts of sexual exploitation of minors, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced. According to court documents, from November 2013 through August 2014 and while serving as band teacher at Riverdale High, Montes took sexually explicit videos of minors on campus.

McQuail hits 3 HRs to power Rawhide to playoffs-opening victory

Steve McQuail homered three times during a 4-for-5, five-RBI performance that powered the Visalia Rawhide past the Stockton Ports 13-3 at Rawhide Ballpark on Wednesday to launch the California League playoffs.
