County commissioners decided to move forward with the Eagle National Security Training Center facility near Venus on Tuesday despite zoning concerns raised by residents living near the project.

Technicalities are holding up final approval of the comprehensive plan amendment for the Eagle National Security Training Center, but Highlands County commissioners directed their planning staff to continue its efforts.

By creating 250 high-wage jobs, and bringing up to 1,000 students at a time into Highlands County, the proposed Eagle National Security Training Center would provide a major boost to the local economy.
