Van Wert Municipal Court report for August 2014

There were a total of 492 cases for the month as follows: 389 traffic cases, 64 criminal cases and 39 civil cases. Fines and costs in the amount of $70,526.58 were distributed to government agencies by the Municipal Court as follows: $22,104.80 to the State of Ohio, $40,952.68 to the City of Van Wert, $6,746.60 to the County of Van Wert, $127 to the Van Wert Sheriff's Department, $14 to Crime Stoppers, $45 to the Village of Ohio City, $45 to the Village of Convoy and $491.50 to Capital Recovery.

High school dropouts cost states billions

According to The Bureau of Labor and Statistics, there are nearly four million unfilled jobs in the U.S. due to the number of unqualified candidates in the workforce who have not attended college or received any form of training beyond high school. Furthermore, millions of adults don't have high school diplomas and lack the skills and knowledge required to succeed in today's job market.

Storm damage west of Delphos not from a tornado

A corn crib on the Gordon Moenter property at 9874 Shenk Road was damaged by what Van Wert County Emergency Management Director Rick McCoy is calling an unconfirmed EF-0 tornado. INFORMATION SUBMITTED VAN WERT COUNTY - On Thursday afternoon, Van Wert Emergency Management Director Rick McCoy met with several officials from the National Weather Service Office in Northern Indiana to conduct a complete damage survey from Wednesday afternoon's storms that moved through the county.

Ribbon cutting ceremony at the Bachwell

The ribbon was cut opening The Bachwell Center for Music and Dance at 116 N. Washington St. in Van Wert. The Bachwell is designed to be a studio for the performing arts, offering dance instruction as well as piano, guitar, and voice lessons and eventually a recording studio.

Director Rick McCoy said a storm cell moving through the eastern portion of the county at 5:10 p.m. may have produced a tornado. McCoy reported minimal damage over a 1.5 mile stretch.
