Wow This is too cool. Hopefully alot of other people will see the advantages of wind energy and will invest in this also!

wow who is puttung it up ?will they be hiring people to help build this windmill i need a job and how great it would be to get one right here in town

Well did you not see what Boomtown was all about? It was a great day for UCI and UCO. We got nation wide coverage for this event.
i just want a job and i work construction and would love to jump abourd a job right here in uc does anyone know who the contractor is that is erecting it ?? |

This is going to be a great project for the U.S. area. I don't know if they will be hiring unskilled labor. But god knows we are going to need more of these if the Cap and Trade passes.
No one will be able to afford their electric! |
for your info i am far from unskilled laborer not every person in union city is unskilled i have had lots of training through skill trades school and lots of hours on the job. every project that has been in union city in the last 10 years i have landed a job as some of us have great skills .but thank you for your 2 cents |

I don’t mind people wanting to try and help the environment. But people need to realize how much the government is trying to put into our heads about this “Global Warming”. If you do some research you will see there are a lot of scientists coming out saying that it is incorrect. What do most of you people drive? Are you driving an electric powered vehicle? All of these vehicles that run everyday are causing more pollution then all the power plants.

People are worried about running out of natural resources, but just in Indiana alone there is enough coal to produce energy for hundreds of years and that is just Indiana. Our economy is struggling the way it is and putting these wind mills will make us struggle even more by putting the coal miners out of jobs. What will these people do? There are well over 6,000 “just a guess” coal miners in Indiana. Most of them don’t know how to do anything else this is what they do. Are they going to go on welfare and be like most of the people in Union City isn’t that just what this country needs?
Also if we have to start putting up wind mills where are we going to put them? We are going to have to take up more land farmers land, woods, pastures anything we can clear out and put up billions of these huge eye sores. Windmills will not only cause loss jobs for coal miners but others. People are worried about causing global warming but what about destroying mother earth by having to clear land and put them up. We already don’t have a lot of untouched land left but you are willing to keep destroying.

1 I'm pretty sure that placing a windmill on top of the soil leaves alot more untouched land left than the coal mining you so strongly advocate. Wind and solar energy options need to be developed ASAP. Our economy is way too dependent on foreign oil, just look at the damage it did when oil went above $100 a barrell, plus there is only so much oil in the ground where as wind and solar are neverending sources for our energy needs. The thing that I love most is the head start our children are going to get on this technology. These "green" jobs are going to be huge opportunities for their generation and our kids have the opportunity to be on the forefront. Great job to those who made this happen! |

I was driving through Illinois last summer and saw a few wind farms along the way. Most were in the middle of active farmland. Tractors and combines can drive around them easily. The footprint of the towers was not large, maybe 20'x20'. Kinda like this one: http://www.treehugger.com/illinois-wind-farm-...
My family farm has been in Randolph county for over a century. We have farmed anything possible. Most of what it took was hard work, sunlight, rain and fresh air. Farming wind and solar energy that magically shows up for free on our land sounds like a great moneymaker. Farming is tough without subsidies like the corporate farmers get (like David Letterman). We have put some solar up, eventually when it is more cost effective we plan to redo the entire barn roof with solar. When wind turbines are cheap enough we just might do that too. Our one plot west of town could generate enough power for all of UC and then some. With new technology comes new jobs. The horseless buggies that came about a hundred years ago put the carriage industry nearly out of business in rather short time. William Durant had one of these failed businesses. He shut it down then started Chevrolet. My grandmother was a telephone switchboard operator in the 50s and she doesn't cry about that job being gone. She moved on when it was time by applying herself and learning a new trade and made it further in life than she ever could have as an operator. Skilled labor can be utilized for wind farms. Local electricians, concrete workers and welders could all be utilized in the building of turbines without much specialized training. This would also bring more competition to the energy sector, witch helps keep prices down to the consumer. The whole green aspect doesn't concern me much but it does make a good selling point. Cleaner air is never a bad thing. |

or this. click on satellite and look. Can you tell this whole area has been mined? You need to understand that is a strip mine. 90% of coal comes from underground mines and does not make any eye sores!

yea but underground mines can be dangerous. just the other day andy and helen got trapped in an old mine and barney had to rescue them. |

1 Wind farmers do not die of black lung disease, or get trapped underground when a mine caves in, only to suffocate on methane gas or carbon monoxide. Going in to rescue them is a bad idea because of the risk of explosions or more cave-ins. You are going to have to try harder to make a good arguement on coal over wind and solar. Like I said before you are just full of bad ideas. |
How many coal miners have you heard of in the last year that have been trapped of died and how many cases have you heard of with people getting black lung? Coal mines have so many federal regulations it is unheard of. MSHA "mine safety Health administration" goes underground on a daily to make sure underground coal mines are doing there job the correct way so that people do not get hurt. The coal miners that do go underground are doing what they love even if it means risking there life. They risk there life everyday for you and everybody else. shouldn't you show them a little respect.

where do i start...u r a idiot they risk their life everyday[ FOR A PAY CHECK ] you your self puts how dangerous it is.wind is better. moron |
