The trail smells more like an excuse for Texas and Washington to take more control of New Mexico's waters. The Rio Grande is navigable and technically the feds do not have the legal jurisdiction to envade NM. Yes trails and nice parks are important, but this is no more then jurisdiction land and water grab by outsiders. Wake up NM, a trojan horse was just let into your town by Gary Esslinger who as manger of EBID doesnt represent the farmers but only a move to shore up political controls below and above Mesilla that have held NM for over a century. Too many sell out NM..

Maybe someone should fire this Gary Esslinger, it sounds like he is trying to blow smoke up someone's rear end. Sounds to me like a land grab deal where only the rich and affluent will be able to afford. If the state wanted to replant cottonwoods, and were truly sincere about soil erosion (conservation), they'd be out there doing it right now, instead of trying to sell this la de da project to taxpayers.
Hopefully it's a pipe dream.

Very pie-in-the-sky; it will be another place for the beggars to congregate and bug people, and a haven for vandalism -- but hey, then the locals can all talk about it being "part of our culture" to tag everything in the former Land of Enchantment.
