Chief Steward Terminated

After last night's hearing a 4-2 decision was made to immediately terminate Elsberry's Police Cheif, Sam Steward. This decision came after the motion was moved by Alderman Bob Kindred and seconded by Sherill Edelen. The hearing that started at 7 p.m., went on until a decision was finally reached around 2 a.m. this morning.

Storm and high winds batter town of Norborne, Mo.

Storms that packed 100 mph winds damaged buildings and toppled trees in the small town of Norborne, Mo., Wednesday night.Straight-line winds hit the half-mile town of about 850 people at 6:50 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.In its 15-minute stay, the storm knocked down several trees and metal pole buildings.

A man from Raytown, a suburb of Kansas City, has been charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and shooting into a vehicle for allegedly shooting a woman to death during a drug deal in the 5700 block of Goodfellow Place in St.

Sheriff files suit

Friday afternoon, May 29, Sheriff Mike Krigbaum filed a suit against the Lincoln County Commissioners (as a body) and individually. Named individually were Sean O’Brien, presiding commissioner; Jim Mayes and Matt Bass, associate commissioners. A hearing on the suit was held Monday, June 1, before the Honorable Judge David Mobley and a second hearing will be held today, Wednesday, June 3 at the Lincoln County Courthouse.

Escaped prisoner Rocklage, back in custody

The Elsberry Democrat Ashley Holton, Reporter Authorities have finally located the St. Peters man who escaped from a from police in a hospital last on March 17. David M. Rocklage, 25, was arrested for the distribution of a controlled substance (cocaine) on March 14, and was being held on a $75,000 bond. While in custody on two days later, Rocklage was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Charles after complaining of chest pains and escaped from his hospital room and assaulted a law enforcement officer in the process.

Husband charged in pike county murder

The Elsberry Democrat, Ashley Holton, Reporter A skeleton of a woman found last October, in Pike County has been identified as a former Elsberry woman who went missing 17 years ago and her husband has been charged with her murder. Two local residents found the remains inside an old cistern last fall, while working at the property previously owned by Doug and Betty Ann Howery off of Pike 202, four miles north of Elsberry.
