Local students improving, still below mandated levels
Trinidad School District No. 1 failed to achieve the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) mandated by the federal government, though improvements had been made by the district since the previous year.
Colorado on the whole experienced a drop in the number of schools making AYP, with 60 percent of the state's schools making AYP, as opposed to 75 percent the previous school year. Of the districts in the state, 42 percent made AYP.
Colorado has three accountability systems that districts have to meet: the AYP standards set by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, the State Accreditation System measured by showing growth on the Colorado Student Achievement Program (CSAP) along with points given for taking measures like devising improvement plans, along with a state-issued School Accountability Reports that issue basic reports on overall academic performance.
