An 11-year-old Fort Worth girl found on the edge of a New Mexico forest nearly a week after she went missing has been released from a Taos hospital, and her mother is awaiting extradition to Texas on charges of aggravated assault and endangering a child, officials said Monday.

Jessica Smith and her mother, Kimberly were located in their vehicle, nine miles south of Tres Piedras, New Mexico, an area on the edge of Carson National Forest, according to a release sent by Fort Worth Police.

WORTH -- Jessica Smith, the 11-year-old taken by her mother on February 7, 2012, has been found in New Mexico.

Kimberly Smith was last seen driving a silver 2007 Mazda CX-9 with Texas license plates BMZ-390. It has tinted windows and a pink and green Harley-Davidson decal on the rear window, according to police.
