A 42-year-old man was killed this afternoon after trying to rescue a dog from a train track south of Trapper Creek.

Alaska volcano erupts twice, ash soars 65,000 feet
The Alaska Volcano Observatory says the eruptions were about an hour apart on Thursday, with the first and smaller one about 8:30 a.m. The ash cloud in that eruption reached about 30,000 feet.
SU, 4:15 a.m.- Mt. Redoubt erupted four times last night. The National Weather Service predicted light ashfall for the Susitna Valley.
Trapper Creek, Talkeetna report dusting, haze
People in the Susitna Valley reported a heavy dusting of brown ash and a haze in the air this morning, though more populated parts of the Mat-Su remained unaffected by the eruption from Mount Redoubt.

Alaska volcano Mount Redoubt erupts 5 times
Alaska's Mount Redoubt volcano erupted five times overnight, sending an ash plume more than 9 miles into the air in the volcano's first emissions in nearly 20 years. Residents in the state's largest city were spared from falling ash, though fine gray dust fell Monday morning on small communities north of Anchorage.
'It's coming down,' Rita Jackson, 56, said Monday morning at a 24-hour grocery store in Willow, about 50 miles north of Anchorage. She slid her fingers across the hood of her car, through a dusting of ash.
