My 2003 4 cyl Camry has developed a vibration noise in the intake. My dealer acknowledged that there is a factory bulletin on this problem - my problem, however, is that Toyota will not remedy the problem since the car is out of warranty; my extended warranty shakes their head "No", because the part is not broke...this is nuts!!!

The intake manifold is part of the power train. It says just that in my 2003 manual. That warranty is 5 years and 60K miles. The dealer is not telling you the truth.

My 2003 4 cly. Camry with 45,00 miles developed the same problem in the Intake manifold. It is covered by a Technical Service Bulletin (TSA) but only if the owner specifically complains about it.
It is covered in the Warrenty booklet too. It is under Long Term Emission Defect Warranty, page 20 and 22, for seven years or 70,000 miles.
I have an appointment at the dealer, Boch Toyota, we'll have to wait and see how it comes out.

My 2003 4 cyl Toyota Camry has developed the same vibration noise problem and the dealer says it is not covered under the 5 year engine warranty. Mr. Mac, what was your dealer response to the issue?

Is this the 2003 4 cyl. only or does it include the six cyl. also? I have the six cyl. with 22,000 miles and have not noticed any noise. Is the noise very obvious and what does it sound like?

My 2003 Camry is making a rattling noise, and my mechanic, who specializes in foreign cars, says it is just a noise and will not hurt the engine at all. This is a hard thing to accept since I am still making a payment on this vehicle. After all, who would buy a car that sounds like a rod is about to go out. I have my doubts that this noise is harmless. It's getting worse and sounds like an old Plymouth Scamp I had 20 years ago before the engine blew. I really like my Camry, but I'm very disappointed with Toyota for not recalling this problem.

RE: 2003 Camry, 4-cyl. The rattling noise described earlier was coming from the intake manifold, and can be replaced for the low price of $544.00 by my mechanic. I have 79K miles on this car. Has anyone had any success with getting a dealership or Toyota to warranty this problem even after higher miles?

Same problem as Mr. Mac. I was told by phone that the power train warranty is 36,000 and I have 36,700. Go figure.
Same thing regarding the TSA, he says that the manifold is not part of this system.
I have appealed to the manager about the 700 mile difference in mileage. We'll see.

My 2003 has a five year 60K power train warranty and the intake manifold is listed as part of the power train. Maybe it is also part of the emissions with an even longer warranty.

Dealers have never been a bastion of integrity.

According to the dealer this particular part(within the powertrain) only has a 36,000 warranty and no warranty under emissions. Of course my car has 36,770 miles on it. After appealing to the manager my service charge was reduced from $495.00 to $218.00 including tax. I am told the new part has a 12 mo/12,000 mile warranty. We'll see.

The dealer may be telling you the truth but I have doubts that he is being honest. Delaers make little or nothing from warranty service. They may try and charge you for warranty work as you have to pay more than Toyota will. Some delaers will bill you and then submit it to Toyota for a warranty clam to collect from both sources.

They should be able to show you in writing. Call some other dealers and ask about the warranty on the intake manifold. To say that part of the power train is not covered by that warranty sounds hoakey to me.

They can and do lie a lot if it suits their prupose.

I HAVE THE SAME NOISE ON MY 03 CAMRY AND IF YOU LOOK ON PAGE 22 IN THE OWNERS WARRANTY INFORMATION BOOKLET YOU WILL SEE UNDER LONG TERM EMISSION DEFECT WARRANTY. THE AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM, THEY HAVE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK LISTED. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT IF YOU HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, THEN YOU HAVE A EVAPORATIVE CANISTER CLOSED VALVE THAT ALSO NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. YOU CAN SEE THIS ON AUTO.MSN. I AM GOING TO TAKE THIS UP WITH MY DEALER ALSO. I HOPE THIS HELPS SOME OF YOU OUT.

I too own a 03 toyota camry, developed the noise and took it to Toyota and for 755 they replaced the intake manifold. I did write to Toyota directly (at their website) and their reply was the following: the intake manifold is only covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles. I am done with toyota after this. They were not helpful at all.

I have a similar problem and the dealer wanted to charge me $700+ to replace the intake manifold. I called Toyota customer relation and they checked and told me this is covered under the 5 yr/60000 powertrain warranty (ONLY for a 2003 model). A notice was sent to all dealerships but most of them are not aware of it. I took the info. the Toyota customer relation gave me, went back to the dealership and told the service mgr. They called Toyota to verify and replaced the intake manifold for me free.

Finally a definite answer on this problem. I will keep that in mind. Can anyone tell me about how many miles this will show up? My car has 21K miles and is a 2003.

I have a 2003 camry with the same problem as you people do. I called toyoyota customer service and talked to the rudest B>?:"". She said even with all the problems there is with maifold and the bulletins sent to dealers, ther is not a recall for repairs. So in other words,I'll have to have repair done and pay out of pocket, with no help from TOYOTA for payment of repairs. Also the mil.is 77000.

I have the same problem. It is covered under the powertrain(60,000), or the extended warranty(70,000 miles). It will cost me a $50 deductible. Otherwise, I was told by a shade tree mechanic,$600. I almost fell for it, not realizing it was covered under the warranty. Wow, all the same problems. Toyota should really do something about this. My car has 62,000 miles on it. I noticed the vibration or rattling in about May of this year.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aquarius

The more you want to control someone, or someone wants to control you, the more difficult life will be today. It's a Full Moon and a lunar eclipse, so the last thing you should do now is to act as though you own this person, or tell them what to do, because it will be an instant recipe for rebellion and trouble. Mars is retro in your house of significant others and open enemies after all. If you don't want to spoil the evening's celebrations you'll have to make compromises, and hope that this other person will do the same. Don't let the fuss stop you having a very happy New Year's Eve.
