When Henry "Hank" Holden was born in a chicken coop on what is now Valley View Farm south of Valley City on Barnes County Highway 21, he was premature, sickly, and his family feared he wouldn't live.

Maple Valley Elementary Schools have a new alignment this fall. If the Maple Valley School District continued the way the students were placed in fall 2008, only 37 students would have been in grades two through six at the Oriska Elementary School this fall, with no students in kindergarten or first grade.

County officials want drivers to be safe. Due to high water over the Highway 10 roadway, Morton County Highway department has closed exit 97 off of interstate, and emergency managers say several county and township roads have water flowing over them.

Floodwaters have washed out roads across North Dakota, and counties are advising no travel on many of the smaller, secondary routes.

Being out on the road was not the place to be Sunday night in many parts of North Dakota.

According to the North Dakota Department of Transportation, Interstate 94 both eastbound and westbound has water over the roadway between Tower City and Oriska at mile marker 305.
