Truck ban on 9W bridge hurts Tilcon
The state Department of Transportation has barred large trucks from crossing the Route 9W bridge, affecting Tilcon New York's operation in Tomkins Cove.

NY power plant to be demolished
Workers will be dismantling a Hudson Valley power plant that had routinely received low rankings for pollution control.
The Lovett Generating Station in Tomkins Cove opened in 1955. It burned coal and employed about 100 people.
The plant is being taken down after years of efforts by the state to force environmental improvements at the facility, and get it to switch to a cleaner fuel. Mirant had said some of the changes weren't financially feasible.
The plant's operators at the Mirant Corporation say they hope to have it dismantled by the spring of 2009. Read more
