Strong winds may be to blame for a massive train derailment in Marshall County. It happened yesterday afternoon, about 1-1/2 mile east of Toluca.
30 freight train cars derail in high winds in Ill.
TOLUCA, Ill. -- Authorities in north-central Illinois say they're investigating the possibility that high winds caused a freight train to derail, damaging about 30 rail cars.
At least 15 to 20 train cars derailed a mile and a half east of Toluca Sunday. The derailment on BNSF Railway westbound tracks occurred during high winds, but the cause has not been determined, said Bob Rankin, of the Toluca Fire Department.
Train Derails in Marshall County
The Marshall County Sheriff's Office says a train has derailed east of Toluca. At least 30 cars are believed to be off the track.
