The husband and son of a former state trooper said Thursday they are not responsible for her death 13 years ago, disputing the conclusion of an inquest jury and publicly describing their recollections for the first time.

The two men turned themselves in Friday after the county coroner issued an arrest warrant, but a judge freed them because the county prosecutor says there's not enough evidence to charge them.

The Lewis County prosecutor said Thursday there isn't enough evidence to seek charges against the husband and stepson of a former Washington state trooper who died in 1998, despite the recent findings of an inquest jury.
