Marcy Kaptur calls for a citizen-sampling brigade

U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur today called upon the Rotary Club of Toledo to join her and other groups in forming a citizen-sampling brigade of western Lake Erie and its associated ditches, rivers, and streams, especially those in the agricultural-dense Maumee River watershed. Johnson to still run for council

Sylvania Township resident Gary Johnson had plans to move to South Toledo from his current residence and then run for a seat on the Toledo City Council. "It was just sickening to me," Mr. Johnson said of the fire that destroyed the older commercial structure at 324 Morris St. Mr. Johnson, 59, the owner of American Floors & Interiors LLC, is still planning to run for Toledo City Council in District 3. He said he's rented a studio apartment on Broadway in the Old South End that will establish his residence in the district.

Raleigh Slawson: 1914-2014; Northwood man was witness to history

Raleigh A. Slawson, who worked in transportation and technology and who told epic stories as a witness to the last century, died Aug. 31 in St. Luke's Hospital, Maumee. He was 99.
