Toledo woman killed in car crash

A Toledo woman was killed and a Sherwood man was seriously injured Friday when their sport utility vehicles collided at Buckskin and Openlander roads in Defiance County's Mark Township, Ohio state troopers said. Her SUV was westbound on Buckskin about 5:20 p.m. and failed to stop at the stop sign for Openlander, troopers said.

Defendant pleads in chop-shop case

One of seven men scheduled to go to trial in U.S. District Court for their roles in an alleged chop-shop operation has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy. Anthony Wymer, 32, of Toledo entered the plea Thursday before Magistrate Judge James Knepp II.

Sylvania city teacher led 1st special classes

Carol Berning Morten, who greeted schoolchildren with optimism and positivity as she taught kindergarten and led the first learning disabilities classes in Sylvania, died Tuesday in her daughter Heidi Malak's Sylvania home. She was 87. She learned in February, 2013, that she had a rare condition that causes inflammation of blood vessels, kidneys, and lungs, her daughter said.

Names of 15 on Toledo Blight Authority released

Several Toledo Councilmen today released the names of 15 people for the newly formed Toledo Blight Authority, which has been described as a mechanism by which leaders can come together, share ideas, and collaborate to help citizens sustain neighborhoods. Council approved creating the authority, which was spearheaded by Councilman Jack Ford following his campaign promise to do so last year.
