IT'S DISAPPOINTING that plans are going forward to clear ancient trees and build a privately owned mausoleum across from the entrance to Savannah's historic Bonaventure Cemetery.

OUT WITH the old, in with the new is a familiar theme. But some people in Thunderbolt may not be so eager to jump on the bandwagon.

Those additions to the 2012 Savannah Music festival were unveiled Thursday night at the Crank It Up Pop Announcement Party at Tubby's Tank House in Thunderbolt.

Here's what's going on today : The not-for-kids stage production An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein opens at 8 p.m., at Bay Street Theatre; American Traditions semi-finals at Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension ; the jazz/funk band The Royal Noise opens its CD-release weekend at Huc-a-Poos on Tybee Island; More Savannah Music Festival ... Measured by the passions it has aroused, though, the property has become a symbolic piece of land by which town residents are measuring their government's performance, past and present, along with residents' own expectations for how their riverside community should develop.
