"It's not known if the child was a pet"

Think they might want to reword this?

A responsible pet owner would not keep their pet child and pet python in the same enclosure.

When I live on Guam in the early 1990's we had a Green Tree Snake problem. Non-indigenous. They would climb power poles and short electrical grides. Killed native bird species et al. We would hold an annual samke round-up with the winner with the most dead snakes winning a Toyota pick-up.

That's what we need here. A bounty system on pythons. Or does PETA have another solution to our snake problem?

Never understood why someone would own a Python. Especially one with kids. Sorry to hear of this young child's death. :(

"But they're always operating on extinct."

Come on! Pet child, a snake operating on extinct... A 10 year old could do a better job than this.

Why is this 2 yr old unsupervised? Ok, so if this is a gentle animal otherwise, but broke free, unless it was during the night when the whole family is sleeping, this sould not have gone unnoticed. Poor child, how sad. The python was probably looking to eat, they only eat once a week usually, probably was overdue for food.

The pythons need to eat the pitbulls, then the alligators need to eat the pythons!

Such a shame, this is why people shouldn't have serpents....other than the obvious connection with Satan

I read the article but could not see where it said the child was a pet.
As far as the parents allowing something like this in the house with small children is just stupid. I wonder how many times these parents said something about a parent leaving a loaded gun around the house. I sure the snake was a guy thing.

Someone, anyone, please explain to me how a 12 foot python can be a "pet"? What kind of pleasure could you possibly get from having a "pet" like that....especially with young children! What in the world were these people thinking? What a terrible, needless tragedy.

how tragically sad. Poeple should not be allowed to have snakes......or any wild animal for that fact. hence the word "wild" you never know what they are going to do. what they do is out of instinct and survival and not for any other reason.

I am really pissed of at idiotic parents who would keep dangerous and wild animals like pythons at home where they have kids!! I hope the parents get charged and go to prison. I have a neighbor who has a pitbull and 2 young children at home. I kept warning him to keep the dog from his children. Well, the dog went mad one day and bit off one of the kid's finger. He had to shoot the damn dog. Stupid parents!!
