Fire closes Randall Elementary in Taylor

The police have finally arrested an 11th grader at Truman High School for the crime. It is very sad and scary what is happeing among our kids today.

To think that this was arson, and the perpetrator received only 180 days in jail?!!! I think he should have been tried as an adult. He also should have been ordered to pay restitution costs along with court costs and possibly 2,000 community service hours.

I am sure that many people are totally unaware that in 40-50 years, we will see a landmark case lawsuit, as most of the Taylor Schools still have asbestos in the ceiling tiles and in the floring in the schools. The recent fire allowed asbestos dust flow through the ventilation system for several days before the fire-damaged portion of the school was sealed off. Asbestos is a leading carcinogen.

I thought it was a federal mandate that asbestos be removed from school buildings. Why was this not done for Taylor Schools?

Clarence Randall School has hot water heat "boiler"

and "room unit heat". Hot water from boiler flows

thru pipes to coil in room unit heat. A fan in the

unit heat blows outside air mixed with class room

air to heat that class room. The ventilation system

is limited to each class room.

The federal mandates asbestos inspections for all

school buildings. Taylor School District is not

exempt.
