Does he want to be the Chief or does he want to be a beatwalker? This noncommital attitude does not bode well for someone who is supposed to be the LEADER of our police force. The citizens of Tamaqua deserve better. Whatever his reasoning was for the resignation request, be it personal or professional, we, as taxpayers, deserve to know what the deal is here!

What do you mean, "old man"? I am in his age bracket and I'd give you a run for your money. From what I have seen, the chief is a nice guy. I think there was more going on to make the chief consider a demotion.

It can be a variety of things from:
1)Feeling overwhelmed by a lack of support from political leaders, borough management, or even, dissension within the police department that is out of control.

2)He might have been given unreasonable expectations.

3)Personal issues such as health or family are pressing.

I am more worried about items 1 and 2.

Now let us all play fair by NOT resorting to PERSONAL ATTACKS on someone's age, the way they dress, their appearance, etc..

May HE/SHE who is soooo damned smart, handsome, fashionable and without body odor throw the first stone!

If you know the chief as a bad guy, tell us specifically what you know and backed it by facts.

Or could it be an investigation of graft for steering all the towing contracts to Hopes. Or could it be an investigation for a varity of things and when the heat was turned up he wanted out but then saw that maybe not much would happen so he figured he might as well keep the cushy big bucks job. You could eliminate the police force in Tamaqua and no body would even notice except Hopes wouldn't be getting ALL the towing contracts and maybe the arrogant wouldn't park his truck illegally on the corner trying to cause an accident, but then the police never ever see this, again because the former chief works there. Don't let him retire but can his rear end instead.

Okay if it is true that Hopes is getting all, or most, of our business it is wrong and the chief should be told about it.

Hopes (shaking head) has been a thorn in my side for a very long time because I do not feel they are upstanding. I sense arrogance, so why reward them with business.

Inform us. Are there any other viable AAA alternatives other than Hopes? How do we get the police to PLAY FAIR and rotate who gets the business?

Chief Mattson, CHANGE YOUR MIND! We people in this town like what you do. Dont let this other idiots that are writing negative things about you put you down. They are just retards who couldnt do the job if they tried. As for Hopes Towing that a**hole of an owner (MATT HOPE) needs to be knocked down a couple of pegs! F them all! Retired Chief Hartung NO LONGER works there. He got tired of Hope screwing people over too. Including the employees! DEETZ towing is the way to go! SCREW HOPES

You've got to be kidding? How many times is this guy going to change his mind? What is that, three or four times, he's asked to be demoted? Everytime someone on council doesn't agee with him he wants to run back to the patrolman's position, then changes his mind. What else does he keep waffling about? Give him what he wants, demote him. Unless council wants to wait until the NEXT time he wants to take his toys and go home.

I think Unbelievable has a good point! no bias there...We just don`t want a wishy-washy guy running the police dept.. still unsure of what reasons are behind his decisions...

And they do an excellent job, those parking violators should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Never mind about fighting REAL crime.
