Marjorie Meginnis Brooks Meacham passed away Monday, October 6, 2008 in Davenport, Iowa. Left to honor her memory are brother, Leon Ray, of Pineville; daughter, Ruth Covington and companion Joe Davis of Raleigh; daughter, Jeanne Agan and husband Hy of Charlotte; daughter, Marion Meginnis and husband, Jack Haberman of Davenport, Iowa; son, Michael Meginnis and wife Fay of Rockingham; grandson, Scott Covington of Swan Quarter, many loving friends.

Hyde County Gets Economic Boost
Hyde County - 1.3 million dollars in checks was presented to county leaders Friday by Golden Leaf Foundation. The grant money is slated for health care, infrastructure, and community development projects. Engelhard Medical Center will receive more than a half million dollars. Improvements will also be made to the Mattamuskeet Lodge and the sewer line that serves that wildlife reserve.

Boards of elections throughout North Carolina will begin mailing out absentee ballots Monday. Cindy Carawan, elections director for Hyde County, said that county’s Board of Elections processed 248 voter-registration forms last month, forms submitted by new voters or voters updating their registration forms for reasons such as name changes, address changes or switching political parties. Carawan said that’s a significant increase compared to most other months.
