Sugar Land resident Janie Munoz Sanchez has spent a considerable amount of time trying to get public officials to take notice of a dangerous traffic situation at the intersection of University Blvd. and Elkins Rd, near Fort Settlement Middle School where her son is a sixth grader. The issues related to cars speeding, especially when students are walking home from school between 4 and 4:45 p.m, finally came to a boiling point on Aug. 29 when a vehicle nearly struck three sixth graders.

Mosquitoes in Sugar Land test positive for West Nile virus

The City of Sugar Land has confirmed the presence of West Nile virus at mosquito traps located in the Sugar Land Business Park and the Sugar Creek subdivision. The City increased mosquito spraying to twice per week this summer and has been working closely with the Texas Department of State Health Services to trap and test mosquitoes for the presence of the West Nile virus.
