STREATOR: City says most downtown residency illegal

Most people living in downtown Streator are doing so illegally. In order to remedy a recent image concern with citizens moving into storefronts, the City Council agreed Tuesday people living in the Central Business District without a special use permit are violating zoning ordinances established in 2004.

Truck gets stuck crossing Vermilion

A Ford failed to ford the Vermilion River Sunday night in Streator. Joseph R. Kmetz, 29, 308 W. Morrell St., drove his 1992 Ford truck into the river at the canoe launch, along West Main Street, about 10:25 p.m., then became stuck.
