Reject outlandish raise in Stratford

It's never a slow news day in Stratford. Whether it's the attempt to bring Shakespeare back to town, the potential sale of prime beachfront property to the federal government or a deal to draw Hollywood studios ...

"But Stratford's politics do provide timely reminders that the mayor is working hard to earn his salary. There are few communities of any size in this state that have the variety and complexity of issues faced by Stratford. On that, town residents of all persuasions can agree."

Can we?

Don't you feel alot of these complexities would go away of the council wasn't involved?
Have you ever seen a group larger than 3 agree on anything, I feel the largest detriment to your town is the councils constant bickering along party lines and the personnel agenda's that are underlining most points of view.
Get rid of the council and let the Mayor BE the Mayor, Good or bad at least ONE person would be in charge.
No corporations could survive this way, how do you expect a town too?

By that logic, we should get rid of the judicial and legislative branches of government and let the one executive branch be in charge? Who needs all those checks and balances anyway?

What form of town government do you have in Wallingford? A dictatorship?

Yes I do feel our govt is too big, and we could do better with less. Having said that, I just don't think the council system you have is structured towards resolving issues.
Who carries the weight in town? Who makes that final decision? It seems that if one side doesn't like the results things get delayed and sidetracked.
A waste of money and time. It's no wonder good leaders stay away from politics, it is very frustrating to bring an idea to a group that feels if it's not theirs then it's no good.
thanks for your time.

I personally believe there are way too many council members for the size town that Stratford is. Correct to say around 55,000. As much as I do not agree with Council because they are not to happy with their power taken away - they do it for free. I came from a city of over 250,000 who only had seven council members and they were payed over 28,000 a year. The town is too divided. It seems like it's all a big power play. Let's balance the good and the bad with the new Mayor?
